Cleaning therapy
Housework has changed from hard labour to a labour of love. Research has shown that we Brits love our homes to be clean and are unhappy of they are not.
- 83% of Britons gain pleasure from having cleaned their houses
- Londoners in particular like cleaner loos (14%) than the Welsh (5%)
- Cleaning gives 57% of the population a feeling of satisfaction
- Nearly a third of the population now say they regard domestic work and hot baths as 'equally satisfying'
- For 63% of Britons, happiness is a shiny sink
"Cleanliness may be next to godliness but the British put cleanliness next to happiness", says psychological analyst Philip Hodson. "House pride has become our national therapy. We love getting to grips with stubborn stains, messy work surfaces, ketchup spills and even plugging in the vacuum. On this evidence, people who clean regularly are 5 times happier than those who don't".
